Locally procured plants were planted directly into the medium. Shallow-rooted and drought-tolerant perennials were selected as most capable of surviving the extreme climatic conditions of a roof environment. Plants included Sedum aizoon ‘Euphorbioides’, Sedum sexangulare, Sedum album, Sedum spurium ‘Schorbusser Blut’, Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum rupestre ‘Angelina’, Delosperma nubigenum, Dianthus arenarius, and Dianthus ‘Tiny Rubies’.
